Play is how children say what they can't yet explain.
Therapy that meets children in their own language — through play, not questioning.
Ask a seven-year-old what's bothering them and you'll usually get a shrug. It isn't avoidance — children simply don't yet have the vocabulary or the abstract thinking that talk therapy requires. What they do have is play. Through toys, figures, drawing, and story, children show what happened, what scared them, and what they wish were different.
In a play therapy session, your child leads. Nothing is forced and nothing is graded. As themes emerge in their play, they get to work through them at a safe distance — and gradually build the emotional vocabulary and coping skills that carry into real life. Parents are part of the process throughout, and this work is carried out under the supervision of a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S).
As a person-centered therapist, I believe you are the expert of your own life. My role is not to hand down answers or tell you who to be — it is to offer a genuine, accepting, non-judgmental relationship where you feel safe enough to be fully honest with yourself. You set the direction and the pace; evidence-based tools are offered when they serve you, never imposed.
Does any of this sound familiar?
- Does your child act out feelings instead of talking about them?
- Do you get 'I don't know' whenever you ask what's wrong?
- Is your child too young for sitting-and-talking therapy?
- Have changes at home started showing up in their behavior?
- Do you want to help but can't find a way in?
If you found yourself nodding along, that is not a diagnosis — it is information. You don't need the right words or a clear goal to begin. A safe, non-judgmental space is waiting for you to think out loud — and you decide what we explore, and how fast we go.
What you can expect.
Their language, not ours
Children process through play the way adults process through conversation.
Safe distance
Hard experiences can be explored through a story or a figure before they can be named directly.
Parents included
You'll understand what's emerging and what helps at home — you're never left guessing.
